Family Tree DNA Confirms Your Connection to Irish Bandit!

From the Family Tree DNA folks,

Genealogy by genetics is the greatest addition to Genealogy since the creation of the Family Tree!

The value of Family Tree DNA testing is its ability to help find "Genetic Cousins ™" by comparing the results of as few as two people.

Males are able to see if another male is a descendant from their direct paternal line. Our 12 marker Y-DNA test has become the world standard, being adopted by National Geographic's - Genographic Project. Our 37-marker test yields the world's tightest parameters to the Most Recent Common Ancestor (MRCA). You may order the 12 marker test and return to "refine" your test at a later time without the need to re-submit another DNA sample!

Females and Males can determine which Haplogroup they are part of based upon the descent through their maternal line. Reports are compared to the Cambridge Reference Sequence, which show your deviation from this industry standard. We identify the lettered Haplogroup that your mtDNA is assigned to by the scientific community.

My Sister Encourages and Cajoles Me

Not to many years ago, and this particular genealogical tool has not been available for long, my sister e-mailed me and called me and threatened me and asked that I submit a cheek swab for DNA analysis to help in the fuller understanding and clarification of the Logan lineage.

Apparently it takes a male swab to do this so after a moments hesitation, after all I do not want people laughing at my chromosomes and/or allelles, I went ahead and submitted a cheek swab, and within a few weeks, there was a storm of el-mails from the folks involved in a Family Tree DNA surname project, the Baker-Boyd-Logan surname project, because my dna had clarified a number of questions.

This is a copy of Barbara Baker's e-mail that day.

Logan branch of the family in the spotlight this week! Thru the wonders of modern DNA science, we have been able to connect the descendants of Campbell Logan, great great grandfather to many Logans visiting this page and the patriarch of the family currently on the site cover photo position, (he was son of Blakely Logan and grandson of William Logan,of VA and KY), to several other Logan familiy groups, including descendants of a William Logan b. about 1760 in Brackagh, Ireland, probably near or in Antrim, many of whose descendants settled in and near Pittsburgh, PA and David Logan b. 1706 in Lurgan, Armagh, who immigrated to Philadelphia, moved to VA, his sons moving to KY. 2 of his sons were Rev. War Generals and another one a Colonel bearing out the old oral family history handed down that Campbell was Scotch-Irish (Ulster-Irish to the Brits) and a relative to a KY Rev. War General. The relationships between William, William and David are not too distant with a common ancestor very likely as close as a great grandfather, grandfather or even father of David. Campbell's earliest known ancestor is his grandfather, William Logan, b. in VA about 1745, d. Knox Co., KY in 1827. Our William's father undoubtedly also came from N.Ireland, with Scotland being the birthplace of his father, grand or greatgrandrather. Going back to Belfast by mail or in person could be a next step, now with lots of help from the Pre 1800 Logans@yahoogroups.com Since the DNA donor for this project had to be a male surnamed Logan, we were fortunate to have Nancy Logan Goodnow's brother agree to scrape the inside of his cheek for us...don't know what Nancy had to do to convince him, but a huge thanks to you both, Nancy and Michael! A great Christmas present for all the Campbell Logan descendants! A very Merry Christmas to Everyone and Happy New Year!

Genetic Genealogy and Your Income

How many folks do you know who are not curious about their ancestry?

The older I get the more curious I become, and now, through the wonder of the internet, I can join the Family Tree DNA affiliate program, and begin the process of working from home, helping people get excited about their lineage, and making sure our descendents have some sense of why our ancestors undertook the journey to America, and what they have done since that trip through Ellis Island.

All the tools necessary to build my family tree and research are available at Family Tree DNA as is the links to the affiliate program. I get to build an income from my computer, learn a skill, (genealogical researching), all from my home computer. Cool. Mike Logan
